Metro Trains services in Melbourne experienced significant disruptions on Tuesday afternoon following a fatal incident at Blackburn railway station. A person died after being struck by a train at Platform 1 shortly after 2 p.m., leading Metro Trains to suspend services in both directions.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene in response to what was described as a self-harm incident. Transport Victoria issued an alert advising passengers that buses were being organized to replace Belgrave and Lilydale trains between Box Hill and Ringwood stations due to the emergency services request.
The duration of the service suspension was not immediately known. Transport Victoria encouraged passengers traveling on the affected lines to plan ahead, allow for extra travel time, and consider alternative transportation options, such as adjusting departure times or using different modes of public transit. The agency issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and thanked passengers for their patience.
