Meghan Markle and Prince Harry might consider living in Australia for a period, according to royal sources. This speculation follows Meghan's guest appearance on MasterChef Australia, which aired in July.
The couple is reportedly preparing to move back to the United Kingdom by the end of August, with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, expected to start school there in September. However, sources told The Sunday Times that this return to Britain may be temporary, with an extended stay of six months to a year, or even longer, being a possibility.
"It could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more. I don't think even they know yet," a source was quoted as saying. The source added that the couple might consider other locations like Canada or Australia, stating, "Why don't we try Australia? It's one of the great things about having left the institution."
During their unofficial four-day tour of Australia in April, Prince Harry attended events at the Australian War Memorial and Invictus Australia in Canberra, while Meghan filmed her guest spot on MasterChef Australia in Melbourne. Her appearance on the show, where contestants prepared a dish for a "Duchess," was kept secret from them. Viewers described Meghan's on-screen persona as warm, down-to-earth, and genuinely nice, with some noting it revealed a different side to the former Suits actress.
Meghan's absence from part of the Sussexes' Australian itinerary was later revealed to be due to this filming commitment. Network 10, the broadcaster of MasterChef Australia, had announced Meghan's guest role in April, calling her a "passionate foodie."
Upon their return to the UK, the couple is expected to reside in a non-royal residence outside of London. The decision to relocate to the UK was reportedly conveyed to King Charles on a Sunday, three days before the news became public on a Wednesday night. The Sussexes moved to California over six years ago following the "Megxit" crisis.
