Police in Majorca have arrested a 50-year-old masseur on suspicion of sexually assaulting a pregnant British tourist. The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday in a hotel located in the resort of Calas de Mallorca.
According to reports, the 30-year-old woman fled the massage room and alerted her husband after the alleged assault. Responding officers found the woman to be highly distressed. She told authorities that the massage began without issue, but the masseur allegedly moved his hands towards her groin, ignored her requests to stop, and then committed a sex act.
Hotel staff assisted the woman after she emerged from the room seeking help. She then returned to her room to speak with her husband before police were called.
Hotel management acknowledged to officers that a guest had lodged a complaint about the same masseur for inappropriate touching approximately one year prior, though no further action was taken at that time. The suspect, who had left the hotel before police arrived, was apprehended in the nearby town of Porto Cristo.
It remains unclear if the arrested man has appeared before a judge to determine his custody status.
This incident follows a conviction in Portugal earlier this year where a masseur received a two-year suspended sentence for sexually assaulting a British production assistant. That masseur, identified as Lucas G., was ordered to pay nearly £26,000 in compensation to the victim. The assault occurred in November 2021, and the masseur was found to have exploited his position of control in an isolated room. He had denied wrongdoing but was convicted.
In a separate incident last month, an Irish tourist pleaded guilty to groping a younger man in a Magaluf hotel sauna. The 38-year-old woman agreed to a financial penalty, paying a fine and compensation to the victim.
