Police have launched a manhunt following a fatal multi-vehicle hit-and-run incident that occurred near Scotland's busiest airport. Authorities are appealing for information regarding the crash on the A8 Glasgow Road, close to Newbridge and Edinburgh Airport.
The collision involved a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, a grey Skoda Karoq, and a grey Hyundai i30. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene around 9:25 a.m. on Monday.
The 58-year-old driver of the Hyundai i30 sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other individuals, who were in the Mercedes, were taken to a local hospital for treatment and have since been released. Three people, two women and a man, who were reportedly in the Mercedes, left the area on foot before police arrived.
Law enforcement has deployed extensive resources, including air support and a dog unit, in an effort to locate the individuals who fled. Searches are ongoing.
The road was closed for several hours to facilitate investigation and vehicle recovery, reopening around 7:05 p.m. The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed that three ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit, and a critical care paramedic were among the resources sent to the incident.
Inspector Thomas Mallinson stated, "My thoughts are with the family of the person who died at this incredibly difficult time. Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and it is vital we trace the three people who left the area before police arrived." He urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam footage to contact the police.
