A man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his flatmate in London, a crime that bears a striking resemblance to a previous killing for which he had served time. Eugeniu Neamtu, 59, was found guilty of fatally stabbing Gheorghe Trica, 63, in Walthamstow, east London, on February 20.

Appearing at the Old Bailey, Judge Richard Marks KC handed down the sentence, ordering Neamtu to serve a minimum of 27 years. The court heard that Neamtu, a construction worker, stabbed his fellow Romanian flatmate in the heart under circumstances almost identical to a killing in Romania in 2006. Neamtu had completed a prison sentence for that earlier offense just three years prior to committing the London murder.
