A 22-year-old Moroccan national has been charged after a man died when a punching bag machine reportedly fell on him in the street.

Iliasse Alhag, 22, of Percy Street, appeared at Liverpool Adult Remand Court. He faces charges of affray, assault, and wounding without intent. The Crown Prosecution Service is reviewing the charges.

The victim, who was in his 50s, suffered serious head injuries in the incident. He was rushed to a local hospital but later died from his injuries. Police were called to Berkley Street in Toxteth just before 7 p.m. on Thursday following reports of the bystander being injured.

Photographs from the scene showed forensic officers at a barber shop and a white evidence tent outside a cafe. A police cordon was in place around Bon Cafe and Katma Barber, where the disturbance is alleged to have begun.
