A man in his 50s is in critical condition after being rescued from the sea near Clacton-on-Sea. Two other individuals, a man in his 20s and a teenage girl, also involved in the incident, remain hospitalized. The rescue took place on Thursday.

This incident follows a separate sea-related fatality on Wednesday in West Mersea, also in north Essex. In that event, a mother and her teenage daughter died when they attempted to rescue a seven-year-old relative from the water. The child remains in hospital in a critical condition.

District commander for Clacton, Ch Insp Stuart Austin, acknowledged the public's potential concern given the proximity of the two incidents. "I'm acutely aware there will be a sense of shock and worry given recent incidents elsewhere in north Essex in the last week," he stated. "First and foremost, our thoughts are with those affected by the incident on the seafront yesterday."

Austin noted that the area was busy at the time of Thursday's rescue and that many people may have witnessed the event. "I'm also aware the area was busy, and the incident would have been seen by a lot of people," he said. Emergency services responded promptly, with all services working professionally to ensure medical personnel could attend to the three individuals. He urged the public not to speculate about the incident on social media.
