A 34-year-old man, identified as Ahmed Timir, appeared in court on charges of attempted murder after a vehicle collided with pedestrians. The incident occurred on Ealing Broadway in West London around 2:30 p.m. on June 27.
Timir is accused of driving into a group of people at a crossing and then leaving the scene in a white Seat Leon, leaving five individuals injured. Terrified shoppers witnessed the event. Police apprehended the suspect a short distance from the location.
Appearing at Willesden Magistrates' Court, Timir did not enter pleas to charges including five counts of attempted murder, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving, not providing a sample for a breathalyser test, and property damage. He confirmed his name and date of birth during the hearing.
Prosecution stated that the vehicle approached the pedestrian crossing while the traffic light was red, and a large number of pedestrians were crossing. The defendant then allegedly drove forward, striking multiple individuals. Several victims sustained serious injuries, including broken facial bones and a fractured pelvis.
Two of the five injured individuals received treatment at the scene, while three were transported to the hospital. Their injuries were reported as not life-threatening.
Timir has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on July 27. Counter Terrorism Policing London conducted the initial inquiries, but authorities have stated the incident is not being treated as terrorism, although they are keeping an open mind regarding potential motives.
