Police in Budapest, Hungary, have arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of illegally collecting and storing human body parts. The suspect, an orderly at a hospital, is alleged to have obtained the remains from abandoned cemeteries in Slovakia and Hungary, as well as from his workplace.
The National Bureau of Investigation apprehended the man on June 17 after receiving information about his activities. A search of his apartment revealed a collection that included skulls, a complete lower leg, a hand, and a reconstruction of a human face made from facial skin. Bones were also found stored in a suitcase. Investigators are working to determine if a heart found preserved in a jar is of human or animal origin.
During questioning, the man reportedly admitted to collecting the body parts, expressing a particular fascination with them. He also stated that he had prepared and consumed food made from such parts. Police noted that the suspect has an interest in anatomy and pathology and has experience dissecting animals.
Authorities seized the man's electronic devices, including computers, tablets, and mobile phones. Forensic experts will examine all recovered body parts. Police indicated that the scope of potential charges could broaden pending the determination of the origin of all the seized remains.
