A 39-year-old man has appeared at Newry Magistrates Court charged with the murder of Christopher "Chrissy" Burns, who was found dead with serious injuries to his head and face at a property in Mountnorris, County Armagh.
Aaron McAnulty, with an address at Cusher Green in County Armagh, spoke only to confirm his name and age and said he understood the charge of murder when he appeared in the dock. A detective told the court she could connect McAnulty to the charge. There was no application for bail and McAnulty was remanded in custody to appear again on 30 September.
Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers discovered Burns at a property in Cusher Green on Thursday morning. The victim, who was originally from Warrenpoint in County Down and in his early 40s, had been living at the Mountnorris address for a number of years, according to court information.
The appearance at Newry Magistrates Court was a preliminary hearing; magistrates remanded McAnulty to custody ahead of the next scheduled court date. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Burns's death and have not released further details of the evidence presented to the court.
The case has drawn local policing resources while authorities conduct inquiries. No further charges were announced at the hearing, and police have not issued additional public statements beyond confirming the discovery of the injured man at the property and the arrest of a suspect. The next court appearance is set for 30 September.
