Two people have been arrested after a 67-year-old man died following an assault in south London, the Metropolitan Police said.
The man was taken to hospital after being assaulted at about 15:40 BST on 24 August on Balham High Road. He died in hospital on Friday. His family are being supported by specialist officers, the force said.
A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 30-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. Both remain in custody for questioning, the Metropolitan Police said.
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Denby said: "This is an incredibly sad incident where a 67-year-old man has lost his life after being seriously assaulted following a dispute in the street. We are working at pace on what is now a murder investigation." He appealed for anyone who was in the area or who has footage from Balham High Road on Sunday 24 August to come forward.
Officers asked witnesses to call police on 101, quoting CAD 4647/24Aug, and to provide any video footage that could assist the investigation. The force said specialist officers are supporting the victim's family as inquiries continue.
The arrests come as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the street dispute and subsequent assault. The Met did not provide further details about the relationship between the suspects and the victim or the exact nature of the injuries sustained. Police inquiries remain ongoing and there have been no further public updates on court proceedings.
Anyone with information was urged to contact police as enquiries progress, with detectives continuing to seek additional witnesses and material to support the investigation.
