A 56-year-old man has admitted killing a woman at her home in Cefn Cribwr, Bridgend county, prosecutors said.

Tracey Davies, 48, was found dead at a property in Cefn Cribwr on 18 April after police were called to reports of concern for the welfare of two people. Michael Davies, 56, from Cefn Cribwr, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

At Newport Crown Court, Michael Davies pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility. The court adjourned the case for further psychiatric reports and listed it to return on 3 October.

Police confirmed the initial call on 18 April prompted officers to attend the address where they discovered Ms Davies deceased. No further operational details have been released while inquiries and the court-ordered psychiatric assessments continue.

In an April tribute, Ms Davies' family described her as a "devoted mother" whose children were her "greatest pride," and said she was "a cherished sister, a loyal friend, and a radiant presence whose laughter could light up any room." The family statement was issued following the discovery of her body.

Manslaughter and a plea of diminished responsibility are matters decided in court and can involve medical evidence about a defendant's mental state at the time of an offence. The judge ordered psychiatric reports to assist the court in determining criminal responsibility and any appropriate disposal when the case returns in October.

The investigation remains active. Police and prosecutors said they would provide further details through the courts as proceedings develop.
