A 78-year-old man died from "severe chest injuries" after being trampled by cattle on the grounds of Felbrigg Hall, a National Trust estate in Norfolk, an inquest has been told. The incident occurred on July 13.

John Orton, a retired telecommunications engineer, was fatally injured on the estate near Cromer. Norfolk Police were called to the scene at approximately 11:45 BST, and despite efforts to save him, Orton died at the location. The estate was temporarily closed following the incident while investigations were conducted.

Assistant coroner for Norfolk, Maeve Sykes, opened an inquest into Orton's death at Norfolk Coroner's Court on Friday. A post-mortem examination provided a provisional cause of death as severe chest injuries.

A spokesperson for the National Trust expressed their shock and deep sadness over the visitor's death, stating, "We have been left shocked and deeply saddened by the death of a visitor who was seriously injured while walking at Felbrigg last month."
