Firefighters are responding to a significant fire that ignited on Edinburgh's Princes Street in the early hours of the morning. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were dispatched to the scene at the former Debenhams building shortly before 3:00 AM.
Seven fire engines and three specialist vehicles were sent to combat the blaze, which was still ongoing as of the latest reports. Police have also been deployed to the location.
The incident has caused disruptions to public transportation in the area. Edinburgh Trams are operating on a partial route, with services only running between Edinburgh Airport and the west end of the city. Passengers have been advised that their tickets will be accepted by ScotRail on services between Edinburgh Gateway and Edinburgh Waverley, and on Lothian bus services operating between West End and Newhaven. Several Lothian bus services have been diverted due to the fire.
