A 98-foot superyacht valued at $9.1 million sank into the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Porto Cervo, Sardinia, just four days after its delivery to a new owner. The vessel, named The Angiola II, experienced an engine failure that led to a fire and began taking on water.
During the incident, 14 guests and crew were aboard the yacht. All individuals were rescued by a nearby ship, and no injuries were reported. The owner, reportedly an Italian businessman, and another passenger were among the last to leave the vessel, waiting for Italian authorities to arrive before disembarking.
Following the rescue, the partially submerged yacht was secured to prevent it from moving. Officials stated that there was no apparent fuel leakage. The Italian Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
The Amer F100 yacht, built by Italian shipbuilder Permare in 2020, is designed to accommodate up to 10 guests in five cabins and a crew of five. The yacht is equipped with four engines and can reach a speed of 28 knots, approximately 32 miles per hour.
Italian authorities are preparing to use a 220-ton pontoon boat to raise the wreckage from the sea floor.
