Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's youngest reigning monarch, has died at the age of 34. His passing was announced Thursday by the prime minister of the Tooro kingdom in western Uganda.

King Oyo became the king of Tooro in 1995 at just three years old, following the death of his father. A regency, including his mother, governed until he turned 18, at which point an official coronation was held.

The cause of King Oyo's death was not disclosed by the kingdom. However, a Ugandan government minister was quoted in local media stating that the king had been critically ill and was seeking treatment in the United States.

While Uganda is governed by an elected president, traditional kingdoms like Tooro hold significant cultural influence. King Oyo ruled over more than two million people and was the 13th monarch of a kingdom established in the early 19th century.

In his role as monarch, King Oyo was known for promoting causes such as youth empowerment, education, climate conservation, and HIV/AIDS awareness. He was respected by his people and was considered a valuable figure to Uganda by other traditional institutions, including the Buganda Kingdom, the country's largest and most influential.

Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, the Prime Minister of Tooro, referred to the king's death as an "immeasurable loss" to the royal family and the people of Tooro. He urged the people of Tooro to remain united, calm, and prayerful during this difficult period.

Regarding the succession, Akiiki stated that the continuity of the Crown is assured and that the king leaves behind a Prince as his heir. The heir's identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of the Tooro Kingdom.
