King Charles III carried out official engagements on 175 days in the past 12 months, increasing his public workload despite receiving regular treatment for a form of cancer, an analysis of the Court Circular by the PA news agency shows.

The figure compares with 133 days in the previous year and 161 in the first year of his reign. The report documents domestic and international travel, formal audiences and public appearances that took the monarch across the United Kingdom and to multiple overseas visits.

The past year saw Charles make some of the longest journeys of his reign, including an October 2024 trip to Australia followed by attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Samoa. In May 2025 he spent two days in Canada, where he opened the current session of parliament. On January 27, 2025, Holocaust Memorial Day, the King travelled to Poland to attend events marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. In April 2025 he made a four-day visit to Italy and became the first British monarch to address the Italian parliament; earlier, he had been the first to address the French senate and Germany’s Bundestag.

Domestically, his engagements have ranged across the UK, with visits to Lossiemouth in north Scotland, Banbridge in County Down, and Deal on the Kent coast, and events in Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Durham, Edinburgh and Middlesbrough. One engagement took him out to sea to meet the crew of the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales in the English Channel ahead of the ship’s deployment to Japan.

The Court Circular analysis shows the King held 22 formal audiences with his prime minister over the past year, the same number as in his second year as monarch and four fewer than in his first year. The past 12 months were the first of his reign not to include a change of prime minister; the period followed rapid changes in government in the early years of his reign that saw Liz Truss succeeded by Rishi Sunak on Oct. 25, 2022, and Mr. Sunak succeeded by Sir Keir Starmer on July 5, 2024.

Buckingham Palace announced in February 2024 that the King had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and that he was receiving regular treatment. The palace has continued to publish the Court Circular as the official record of the royal family's activities, which the PA news agency used to compile the engagement figures.

Beyond formal state duties, the King marked personal and public milestones during the year, celebrating his 20th wedding anniversary to Queen Camilla and reaching the 1,000th day of his reign since accession in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. He has continued to hold one-to-one audiences with leaders of charities and businesses and to receive ambassadors and heads of state, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in June 2025 and French President Emmanuel Macron in July.

The analysis also highlights activity levels across senior royals. The Princess Royal recorded engagements on 189 days in the past year, the highest of any senior royal. The Duke of Edinburgh carried out engagements on 129 days, the Duchess of Edinburgh on 117, the Prince of Wales on 107 and the Princess of Wales on 37.

The PA analysis does not comment on the King's health beyond official palace statements. It records that he maintained a programme of official duties throughout the year, including months in 2024 when he was reported to be largely out of public view while undergoing treatment. The Court Circular remains the principal public record of those duties and the source for the numbers reported by the PA news agency.
