Pop girl group Katseye appeared on the red carpet at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday at New York’s UBS Arena, trading the Gap denim looks that made them a viral sensation this month for coordinated Dolce & Gabbana ensembles and bags.
Members Manon, Sophia, Lara Raj, Yoonchae, Megan and Daniela Avanzini each wore distinct statement looks. Manon and Sophia chose structured black blazer dresses, with Sophia’s silhouette featuring a cone-bra detail; Lara Raj opted for a corseted bodysuit while Yoonchae wore a black lace mini-dress. Megan arrived in a pink satin dress paired with a fuzzy jacket, and Daniela glittered in a plunging silver sequin gown.
The red-carpet appearance follows the release earlier this month of Katseye’s Gap campaign, titled “Better in Denim,” which featured the members dancing to Kelis’ 2003 hit “Milkshake.” The clip, released shortly after an American Eagle denim ad that starred actress Sydney Sweeney, helped push streams of “Milkshake” up 179 percent, according to Luminate. The campaign drew attention for its Y2K-inspired styling and choreography.
“It’s so bold…and very obviously 2000s,” Megan told Billboard of the Gap campaign. “We really wanted to be confident, but also look and feel good.”
Katseye is also in the running for its first MTV Video Music Award, receiving a nomination for Push Performance of the Year for their song “Touch.” The group was scheduled to perform during the show’s pre-telecast.
The VMAs lineup on Sunday included performances by major pop and hip-hop artists. Headline and televised performances were expected from Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Post Malone, Jelly Roll, Ricky Martin, Busta Rhymes and Mariah Carey, who was set to receive the Video Vanguard Award.
Katseye’s red-carpet fashion move underscored a quick shift from high-visibility brand partnerships to the prestige and publicity associated with awards-season appearances. The group’s Gap spot and subsequent VMAs presence came amid heightened attention on pop-culture throwbacks to early-2000s fashion and music, a trend reflected both in the styling of the ad and the ensemble choices on the carpet.
As the VMAs proceeded, the ceremony continued to spotlight a mix of established stars and rising acts. Whether Katseye wins the moon-person statuette for which it was nominated would be determined later in the evening, while the group’s high-profile appearances and branded campaign have already amplified their visibility in mainstream U.S. pop coverage.
