Sophia Laforteza, a singer in the six-member girl group Katseye, is stepping away from the ensemble to focus on her health. The group's label announced the decision, stating that Laforteza has been advised to take "extended rest and ongoing care to ensure a full recovery."

According to the label, Laforteza has been receiving "the utmost support" and consulting medical professionals. Her condition will be reevaluated in September. Laforteza herself shared on Instagram that the decision was difficult but that "health has to come first," emphasizing the need to care for her mind and body to continue her career.

This is the second member to take a hiatus this year. In February, fellow bandmate Manon Bannerman began a temporary break to focus on her health and well-being. Bannerman, a 23-year-old Swiss singer, has not yet returned to the group, though the label has stated the door remains open for her. The group has indicated that the decision for Laforteza to step away was made after "open and thoughtful conversations together."

Katseye, formed in 2023 with six members, was nominated for two Grammy Awards last year. The group will now continue its activities with four members. The ensemble has faced challenges, including online death threats against members since their debut.
