A popular Japanese adult film star, Hana Kuraki, 25, was found dead in her ex-boyfriend's Tokyo apartment on Saturday, in what reports suggest was a suicide. Shortly before her death, Kuraki had reportedly accused her ex-boyfriend, former music idol Shota Taira, 29, of a hit-and-run and of breaking into her home to steal valuables.
According to Sportschosun, Kuraki left a note detailing these accusations. She alleged that Taira assaulted her and stole two iPhones from her home in November. The note also claimed that Taira's father made threats after Taira was arrested following the alleged assault, especially when Kuraki refused to settle the case out of court.
Kuraki reportedly agreed to a settlement out of fear for her career, but Taira allegedly did not honor the terms. The note further stated that Taira attacked Kuraki in a June hit-and-run incident after she ended their relationship. When Kuraki attempted to stop Taira from leaving her house, she was allegedly dragged by his Maybach, sustaining serious injuries to her face and jaw.
Kuraki, who debuted in the adult industry in 2024, had recently announced a temporary break from her career due to a traffic accident, though she did not provide specific details. In a post on X, she wrote, "I've decided to take a break for a while, so I'll be suspending activities for a certain period. (I do want to keep up with filming if I can). As for the events currently scheduled, I'll provide an update when I can."
Shota Taira has not issued a public statement regarding Kuraki's death. Her body was discovered by a friend, according to a social media post by the owner of a nearby bar who knew Taira. The bar owner urged an end to rumors and speculation, stating, "I hope that no further harm comes to the deceased or those around her through misinformation or speculation." He also expressed a wish for "a world free of people who use violence to control others or drive them to such desperate straits."
