Ibiza's notorious nightlife scene is seeing another surge in drink prices, with a small bottle of water now costing approximately £13 (€15) and a vodka and tonic priced at £22 (€26). These increases, reported by visitors to the Balearic island's major clubs like Ushuaïa, Amnesia, and Pacha, are contributing to an increasingly expensive summer for tourists.

A bottle of Heineken is now priced at around £15 (€18), a significant jump that aligns with rising costs across the island's entertainment venues. Ushuaïa is also offering VIP tables for ten people on select nights for £471 per person, with water at these tables costing around £21 (€25).

These price hikes come as Spain anticipates its busiest tourist season in a decade. Projections suggest a substantial increase in visitors, partly due to ongoing uncertainties in other travel destinations. In May alone, Malaga recorded over 644,000 hotel guests, a 4% increase compared to the previous summer, with 83% of those visitors being international.

Beyond beverages, food prices at popular establishments have also seen increases. Cafe Mambo, known for its sunset views, now charges £32.50 (€38) for its signature burger, an increase of £3 (€3) from 2024 prices. A Josper-grilled salmon dish has similarly risen from £35 (€42) to £38.50 (€45).

This trend of rising costs is occurring against a backdrop of extreme weather events across Europe. Spain and other Mediterranean countries are experiencing heatwaves, with thousands evacuated in southern France due to wildfires. Firefighters are battling blazes that have devastated significant areas of land in Portugal, Spain, France, and Greece. These extreme conditions follow a record-breaking heatwave in June, which scientists have linked to climate change.
