A private island in the Venice lagoon, historically significant and featuring a renovated fortress, has been listed for sale at €5.5 million (approximately $6 million USD).

The island, known as Crevan, offers panoramic views of Venice, Murano, and Burano. Its centerpiece is a 19th-century Napoleonic fortress, originally constructed in 1806 during French rule to bolster the northern lagoon's defenses. The structure was later transferred to Italian royal control in 1866 and subsequently converted for residential use in the mid-20th century after a period of abandonment.

The refurbished fortress now serves as a villa with four rooms and three bathrooms. The property spans 5,700 square meters and includes well-maintained gardens with fruit and ornamental trees. An inner canal with a private mooring adds to the island's exclusivity, and a 1898 lugger is also moored in the marina.

Crevan's location is highlighted as a key feature, situated approximately 7.5 kilometers from Venice. This proximity allows for easy access to the historic canal city while offering a retreat from tourist crowds. The island also provides a convenient base for exploring nearby islands such as Murano, renowned for its glassmaking, and Burano, known for its colorful houses.

It also features a Napoleonic fortress, which has been refurbished

The listing emphasizes the island as an "enchanting oasis of peace and beauty." The luxury real estate agency Lionard, which is handling the sale, describes the fort as an "emblematic example of the military architecture of that era."
