A lavish palace in the United Arab Emirates, known for its opulent design and persistent rumors of paranormal activity, has been listed for sale at £4.5 million (approximately $5.7 million USD).
Al Qasimi Palace, located in Ras al Khaimah, an emirate often described as a quieter and more affordable alternative to nearby Dubai, boasts 35 rooms. The property was originally constructed in 1985 by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Qasimi and is reportedly valued at £107 million, though it has remained unoccupied for many years.
The palace's interiors are characterized by elaborate decorations, including crystal chandeliers imported from Europe, mosaic and painted tiles, gold trimmings, marble floors, and lifelike murals. A distinctive glass pyramid tops the structure, filtering sunlight to illuminate the floors below. The property also features an indoor fountain and a collection of marble statues, animal murals, and antique artifacts.
In 2019, the palace was purchased and refurbished before being opened as a tourist attraction, according to Visit Ras al Khaimah. The site highlights the palace's grandeur, featuring its European chandeliers, astrological symbols on the walls, marble flooring, and detailed murals.
The property has garnered a reputation for being haunted, with local stories detailing strange occurrences. These include reports of moving furniture, ghostly whispers, the sounds of children crying and laughing, and spectral faces, particularly those of children, appearing in the windows. Some local legends attribute the hauntings to jinn, or supernatural spirits.
Listed by Bishop and Knight, the palace is described as a "rare architectural masterpiece" designed for royalty. The listing encourages investors, collectors, or developers to consider its potential for conversion into a museum or boutique hotel, or to be retained as a private estate.
The estate spans 34,000 square feet and includes balconies, terraces, a prayer hall, and a star-shaped fountain. The building's peculiar collection of statues, murals, taxidermy, and figures has contributed to its eerie atmosphere.
