A real estate agent in Port Melbourne, Australia, has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for operating a large-scale drug trafficking operation. Tegan Miller, 30, pleaded guilty to charges including trafficking more than a kilogram of methamphetamine, cocaine, and MDMA, and dealing with over $519,000 in cash.

During sentencing, Judge Fiona Todd described Miller as the architect of her own downfall, emphasizing the severe consequences for her children. "I consider in this case that a very substantial burden will weigh upon you in the form of your knowledge that you have authored a monumental disaster, which will deny your children their mother for a very substantial proportion of their childhoods," the judge stated. "That thought will haunt you every day you are in jail."

Police discovered the illicit substances and cash in October 2023 when they searched Miller's apartment and a nearby storage unit. The haul included 1151 grams of methamphetamine, 135 grams of cocaine, 53 grams of MDMA, digital scales, packaging materials, multiple phones, an iPad, and a ledger detailing drug transactions. A loaded handgun, additional SIM cards, and a money-counting machine were also found in the storage unit. CCTV footage showed Miller transporting the drug-filled bags into her building.

Judge Todd criticized Miller for her motivation to traffic drugs for profit, highlighting the devastating social impact of drug use. "The social consequences of drug use, the violence, decimation of families, and the human misery, are borne as the result of people who, like you, seek to exploit the vulnerable, the addicted, and the desperate," she said.

The court heard details of Miller's difficult past, including childhood sexual abuse and her mother's involvement in running a brothel. Miller reportedly began using methamphetamine at age 14 and developed complex PTSD from violent relationships. She had built a career in real estate and an Uber car-sharing business but relapsed into daily meth use after a breakup, leading to her involvement in drug trafficking.

Miller's defense highlighted her early guilty plea, clean record, character references attesting to her devotion to her children, and rehabilitation efforts while on bail. However, the judge concluded that a substantial punishment was necessary.

The court heard Miller will be allowed to hold onto her baby for a period of time while caged in the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre alongside the likes of mushroom murderer Erin Patterson

Miller will be eligible for parole after serving five and a half years. She has already spent 16 days in pre-sentence detention. The sentence also means she will be incarcerated at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, alongside other high-profile inmates, including Erin Patterson, convicted in relation to a poisoning case.
