Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of former world champion boxer Zolani Tete, South African police announced Monday.
Tete was in his car outside his home when individuals wearing balaclavas opened fire, according to police. A woman who was in the vehicle sustained injuries and has been hospitalized. The incident occurred in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, as Tete was arriving at his residence and waiting for the gate to open.
One of the four arrested suspects is expected to appear in court on Monday, while the other three will have their court appearances on a later date.
Tete previously held the World Boxing Federation flyweight title from 2007 to 2008 and the World Boxing Organization bantamweight title in 2017 and 2019.
