An explosion involving a truck outside a pub in Yorkshire has left four children and a man with life-changing injuries, with five individuals requiring hospitalization. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday at the Hare and Hounds Inn on Liley Lane in Mirfield, West Yorkshire.
Emergency services, including five ambulances and an air ambulance, responded to reports of a vehicle on fire. The victims were reportedly found inside the truck and sustained serious burns. An eight-year-old girl was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. Three other children and a 43-year-old man also suffered serious injuries and are receiving treatment.
Witnesses described hearing a 'massive bang' as the vehicle caught fire. One local woman recounted that a farmer on a quad bike quickly went to the scene to assist the children. The road was closed in both directions as police established a cordon while emergency services worked.
West Yorkshire Police have initiated an investigation into the fire. However, authorities have stated that the incident is not being treated as suspicious and foul play is not suspected. A spokesperson confirmed that investigations indicate the fire was not started deliberately.
