The U.S. Coast Guard and Hawaii first responders are conducting a search for a 49-year-old father and his 16-year-old son who went missing Tuesday in the waters off Hanauma Bay on the east side of Oahu.

Family members reported that the pair left their hotel around 7 a.m. to hike the Hanauma Bay Rock Bridge Trail. A passerby discovered the father's belongings near the trail at approximately 8:45 a.m. The Honolulu Fire Department was alerted to a missing swimmer call around 10:30 a.m.

Both state first responder agencies and the Coast Guard have deployed air and marine units to aid in the ongoing search efforts. The National Weather Service has not issued any rip current advisories, but larger waves are anticipated along Oahu's south-facing shores on Thursday.
