A family on kayaks disrupted a specially protected nature reserve in Arne, Dorset, by ignoring "no landing - wildlife only" signs and approaching breeding nests. Video footage captured the family, equipped with helmets and lifejackets, kayaking near Oystercatchers in July. They were also seen posing for a camera monitoring one of the bird's nests, according to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).

The RSPB has reported a rise in anti-social behavior at the reserve, which it warns is causing "unnecessary disturbance to wildlife and putting this precious landscape at risk." Incidents include kayakers and paddleboarders landing on the beach despite signage, and visitors dumping cigarette butts in bird hides. This behavior is particularly concerning given a recent red fire alert and clear instructions for visitors not to smoke.

An RSPB spokesperson highlighted further issues, including the repeated theft of water rescue equipment, such as throw lines intended for safety on a seasonal trail to the lagoon. The charity emphasized that the vast majority of visitors appreciate and want to protect the reserve's wildlife.

"Please help us by following the signs, keeping a safe distance from wildlife, and taking care of this special place," the spokesperson urged. "Our team works hard to protect the reserve and the wildlife that depends on it, but we need your help too. Thank you for helping us keep Arne safe for wildlife and for everyone who enjoys this wonderful landscape."
