Emergency services responded Friday evening to reports of a malfunction at Maltby Crags Fair in Rotherham, which resulted in three people being taken to the hospital. The incident involved two children, aged 11 and 13, and a 21-year-old woman.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed the injuries and stated that the affected individuals were transported for treatment. The fairground closed for the evening following the incident on September 11. A portion of Blyth Lane was temporarily shut to facilitate public exit but has since reopened.
Social media posts from local residents described the incident as a car coming off the track of a ride and colliding with another. One witness indicated that people had fallen from the ride, and at least two boys sustained injuries.
The Maltby Crags Fair, operated by J Holmes & Sons, had been open since Wednesday, September 9, and was scheduled to continue through the weekend. It remains unclear which specific ride experienced the malfunction or whether the fair will resume operations.
An air ambulance was also reportedly called to the scene, and social media images showed a significant police presence, with at least six police vehicles in attendance.
