Thames Valley Police have launched a murder investigation after an 88-year-old woman, identified as Jill Gant, was found dead at her home in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Officers responded to reports of an unexplained death at a property on Appleford Drive around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday.
A 36-year-old man from Abingdon has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Police stated that Ms. Gant's family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers. The family has requested privacy during this time.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin assured the community that while there will be a significant police presence in the area, there is currently no believed threat to the wider public, as an arrest has been made and no one else is being sought.
