At least 48 people have died and 100 others are receiving treatment after consuming a local drink in southern Nigeria’s Ondo state, officials said Thursday.
Ondo Police Spokesman Abayomi Jimoh stated that one of 15 individuals arrested in connection with the incident has been producing drinks "suspected to contain methanol" and is cooperating with police investigations. The affected areas include the Odigbo and Irele local government areas within Ondo state, according to Banji Ajaka, the state commissioner for health.
