Los Angeles police said they discovered decomposing human remains inside the front trunk of a Tesla that was impounded at a Hollywood tow yard on Monday afternoon. Officers responded to a call about a foul odor around 12:20 p.m. and located the remains stashed in a bag, the Los Angeles Police Department told Page Six.

The Tesla is registered to New York-born singer David Anthony Burke, who performs as D4vd, according to reporting by ABC7. The vehicle had been impounded for several days before officers made the discovery, LAPD said. Investigators have not released the identity of the remains or provided further details about how long the body had been in the vehicle.

A representative for the musician told NBC Los Angeles that Burke is cooperating with police. Page Six and other outlets reported that the musician’s representatives did not immediately respond to additional requests for comment. The LAPD said the matter is under investigation and provided no information indicating any charges have been filed.

Authorities discovered the remains after the tow yard called the LAPD to report the smell, a spokesperson said. The remains were located in the compartment at the front of the electric vehicle commonly called the “front trunk” or “frunk.” Los Angeles investigators have not disclosed whether the case is being handled by homicide detectives or another specialized unit.

Burke, 20, rose to prominence in 2022 after singles including “Here with Me” and “Romantic Homicide” gained traction on TikTok and streaming platforms. He released his debut album, Withered, in April 2025 and was promoting a deluxe edition of the record on social media over the weekend. His latest Instagram post, published Sunday, promoted the deluxe release; he also posted a selfie and wrote that he would begin media training the following day.

According to coverage by Page Six and other outlets, Burke has roughly two million Instagram followers and more than 33 million monthly listeners on Spotify. He is currently on a world tour named after his debut album, and a show in Minneapolis was scheduled for Tuesday. It was not immediately clear whether that performance would proceed as planned.

The LAPD said it will release additional information as it becomes available. The office handling public records for the department did not immediately provide a case number or further particulars about the condition of the remains or the tow yard involved. Media requests to local coroner’s officials were not immediately returned.

Investigations into human remains found in vehicles typically involve coordination between the coroner’s office and homicide or major crimes units; identification can require forensic examination and take time. Police cautioned that identification and the circumstances surrounding the discovery remain subject to ongoing inquiry.
