A couple was violently attacked by a mastiff while out walking their dog on the Gold Coast, resulting in serious injuries that required hospitalization and surgery. The incident occurred in Arundel shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday.
CCTV footage captured the mastiff chasing the couple down the street before latching onto them and inflicting wounds. Neighbors intervened, chasing the dog away and calling for an ambulance. A woman in her 40s sustained injuries to her arms and hands, while her husband, in his 50s, suffered lacerations and puncture wounds to his arm.
Both individuals were transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment. Their dog was unharmed during the attack.
Gold Coast Council officers attended the scene and seized the mastiff. Investigations into the incident are ongoing. On Friday, officers were observed visiting the dog owner's home, where warning signs about a guard dog were later posted on the front fence.
