A murder investigation is underway in Blackburn after a couple was found stabbed to death inside their home on Monday. Lancashire Police were called to the property on Hardman Street by the North-West Ambulance Service at 8:22 a.m. to a report of two individuals with stab injuries.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man and a woman, both pronounced deceased at the scene. The couple has not yet been formally identified, and post-mortem examinations are scheduled to take place. The force stated that their thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased during this distressing time.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being held in custody. Police are continuing to establish the motive for the incident.

Officers have cordoned off the property and several back alleys as part of the ongoing investigation. A forensics tent was erected outside the front door. Detectives are conducting door-to-door inquiries and appealing to the public for any information. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area over the past 24 hours, or who possesses relevant CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone, or doorbell footage, is urged to contact the police.

Residents described the couple as elderly and members of a nearby mosque, with one neighbor stating they were "very private." Another resident, who has lived on Hardman Street for 30 years, expressed that the area, once quiet, is "not anymore."

Lancashire Police have stated that while the investigation is in its early stages, they do not believe there is any wider threat to the public. An increased police presence will remain in the area to conduct inquiries and provide reassurance.
