A couple has allegedly left a waterfront restaurant in Penarth, South Wales, without settling a £115 bill after a seafood dinner. The incident occurred at The Custom House restaurant on Monday.
The pair reportedly consumed a two-course set menu, calamari, and a £52 dover sole, along with eight Cokes. CCTV footage shows the couple, the man described as bald and wearing a vest, and the woman in flip-flops, arriving in a Volvo with the private registration 'MD11 RAN'. The same footage captured them leaving the premises without paying.
The restaurant posted an appeal on Facebook, requesting the customers return to pay the outstanding bill. The post stated, "We have your vehicle registration on record: MD11 RAN. Please return or contact the team to arrange payment." The restaurant owner, Tanny Martinez, expressed disappointment, noting the challenges faced by the hospitality industry.
Social media users have commented on the incident, with some pointing out the ironic nature of the car's license plate, 'MD11 RAN'. This incident follows other reported cases of 'dine and dash' across the UK.
