The family of a 25-year-old bus driver, Auguste-Marie Bile-aka Amoa, has described him as an "amazing young man" after he was fatally shot outside a pub in London, an incident police are investigating as a suspected case of mistaken identity. Bile-aka Amoa was reportedly dropping off his girlfriend at The Landor pub on Willington Road when he was killed, a situation a friend described as being in the "wrong place at the wrong time."
Paramedics arrived at the scene within three minutes of the incident on Monday evening, but Bile-aka Amoa was pronounced dead at the location. The Metropolitan Police stated that a 22-year-old man later presented at a hospital with a gunshot wound and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder. No further arrests have been made as of Monday.
Bile-aka Amoa's family expressed their devastation over the "horrific murder," stating, "He was an amazing young man full of love, kindness, and an enthusiasm for life." They added that the pain of his loss is "impossible to put into words" and that they want "justice for him."
Friends and colleagues paid heartfelt tributes online, remembering him as a "humble and hardworking" individual with the "kindest soul."
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Guiver, who is leading the investigation, renewed the police's appeal for information. "We are extending our appeal to members of the public, and anyone in the area around the time of the shooting to please come forward," Guiver said. "Any piece of information you have could prove vital in our investigation." The police are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or has CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage to get in touch.
A woman living nearby reported hearing four gunshots and initially mistaking them for a car backfiring. She described finding a man on the ground with significant bleeding and assisting him before emergency services arrived.
Clapham, a south-west London suburb, has experienced other violent incidents in recent years. In July, one man was killed and four others were injured in a stabbing. The previous year, a 27-year-old man was fatally shot in the area.
