Greek police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 38-year-old Scottish woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase in Athens. The suitcase was discovered by a homeless man on Saturday afternoon in an abandoned building on Evelpidon Street in the Kypseli neighborhood.

The man alerted authorities after noticing a foul odor emanating from the suitcase and reporting that it appeared to contain a human limb. The initial examination of the body revealed no obvious injuries. Greek authorities took fingerprints but found no match in their national database. The woman was identified through an Interpol document sent to the Greek Police.

Investigators determined that the woman had traveled to Greece on June 29, arriving from the United States via Cyprus. Police are requesting passenger manifests from the airline to ascertain if she was traveling with anyone and are checking local accommodation records for reservations under her name. Authorities estimate that her death occurred between five and seven days before the body was found. The Cyprus Police are assisting in the investigation. The British Embassy in Greece and the woman's father have been notified. Police have expressed a desire to speak with her father to gather more information about her recent activities.
