A Premier Inn guest reported a distressing experience at a hotel near Manchester Airport on June 17, after discovering bed bugs in her room. Ellie Davina, 22, from Bradford, was staying at the Premier Inn Manchester Airport hotel on Runger Lane North for one night before an early morning flight to Tenerife.
Davina stated she had been lying on her bed for approximately two hours before noticing what she initially thought was a single insect on her pillowcase while using her phone's flashlight. Upon closer inspection, she discovered multiple bed bugs. "I looked further and the more I looked, the more I found," she said. "As soon as I'd seen one, there was another and another and another."
She reported seeing about 10 bed bugs in total, with some described as being "the size of my fingernail," crawling out of the pillowcase and bedding.
Davina brought the issue to the attention of the hotel reception. She claims a staff member was dismissive and that the hotel initially refused an immediate refund, suggesting it would be processed the following morning. She stated that she and her companion waited at reception for about half an hour, leaving around 2:30 a.m. due to their discomfort.
Following the complaint, Davina was offered a change of room and a full refund. She requested a room on a lower floor with new bedding, which she then changed herself. However, she reported feeling too unsettled to sleep in the new room and spent the remainder of the time until her flight sitting on the edge of the bed.
Premier Inn has since confirmed that a full refund has been processed for Davina. A spokesperson for the hotel chain described the incident as "rare" and stated that "rigorous processes" are in place to prevent and address such issues. The hotel chain reported that an expert supplier treated the affected room and that subsequent checks of nearby rooms found no evidence of bed bugs. Premier Inn apologized to Ms. Davina for the incident.
