A British tourist is under police investigation in Mauritius following a collision between a rental car he was driving and an electric bicycle, which resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy. The incident occurred on June 19 around 4:50 p.m. on the coastal road at Pointe-aux-Biches.

The boy, identified as Boris Tze Sek Sum, was riding his electric bike when he was struck by the hire car driven by the 27-year-old British holidaymaker. Emergency services found Boris unconscious with a severe head injury. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to SSRN Hospital, where he was admitted to intensive care and placed on life support. Doctors described his condition as critical, and he died on the night of July 1.

Local police stated that the rental car collided with the teenager's electric bicycle. Investigators indicated that Boris was attempting to overtake a lorry when he entered the path of the oncoming vehicle.

Authorities questioned the driver and collected statements from witnesses as they work to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. The driver passed a breathalyser test at the scene. Both the rental car and the electric bicycle were seized for the investigation. Police confirmed that there was no Safe City CCTV coverage in the area where the collision took place.

The British tourist is understood to have since left Mauritius. Investigators have stated that he may be required to provide further information as the inquiry continues.

Boris, the eldest of two children, was remembered by his family in Pointe-aux-Piments as a cheerful, respectful teenager with a promising future. Relatives described him as a kind-hearted young man who was always smiling and deeply loved by those around him.
