A British tourist has died months after a wooden banister collapsed, sending him and another man plunging to the ground in Lanzarote. Nicholas Thomas, 54, from Cwmbran, Wales, was severely injured on October 25 last year during a holiday at the Galeon Playa Apartments in Costa Teguise. He fell approximately 15 to 22 feet after the banister gave way, according to an inquest at Gwent Coroner's Court. Thomas was initially treated at Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital before being flown back to the UK in late November. He was subsequently transferred between several hospitals, including the University Hospital of Wales and Grange University Hospital, before passing away on July 10.

Another man, 56-year-old Darren Silcox, also from Cwmbran, died two hours after the same incident. Preliminary investigations into Silcox's death indicated he died from a traumatic brain injury resulting from the fall, skull fractures, and lacerations.

Spanish police are investigating the incident to determine if inadequate upkeep or safety measures contributed to the collapse. The inquest proceedings have been adjourned until April 14 of next year. Thomas's family is scheduled to hold his funeral on August 14 at Gwent Crematorium.
