A 67-year-old British tourist was violently assaulted and robbed of his wallet in Benidorm on June 28. The attack, captured on video, shows two men waiting for the victim before one punches him to the ground, knocking him unconscious. The assailant then kicks the man twice in the head and searches his pockets while his accomplice observes. The suspects fled the scene, leaving the victim on the street until help arrived. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and has since been discharged to recover at home.
Spanish National Police arrested two men, aged 19 and 21, described locally as brothers, in connection with the assault. Police confirmed the arrests were for alleged crimes of violent robbery, theft, and assault causing bodily harm. The suspects were apprehended after they allegedly attempted to rob an English woman of her handbag an hour after attacking the tourist. Passers-by intervened in the second incident, chasing the assailants and recovering the stolen handbag.
Authorities stated that the victim's injuries, despite the severity of the attack, were not life-threatening. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. near the Hotel Agir, close to Benidorm's area known as 'Little England.' The two arrested individuals were presented before the courts in Benidorm on Tuesday. Information regarding their bail status or whether they were remanded in custody was not immediately available.
This incident follows another in Tenerife last month where an 88-year-old British holidaymaker died after a street mugging. In that case, three suspects were arrested, including a man with prior offenses, and two alleged accomplices who were reportedly waiting in a getaway car.
