A Cypriot court has granted a British man, who is charged with negligence in the death of his 3-year-old son, permission to travel to the United Kingdom for his child's funeral. The court lifted all travel restrictions on the 37-year-old for one month, with the order expiring on September 15.
Should the man fail to return to Cyprus by September 16, a European arrest warrant will be issued against him. Court proceedings are scheduled to resume on September 16, with a subsequent hearing set for September 17.
The incident occurred earlier this month while the man and his family were on vacation in the resort town of Paphos. Their son fell from a fourth-floor window of their hotel. The exact circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear.
Following the incident, the father was arrested and charged. A court subsequently released him from detention under specific conditions: he was required to surrender his passport, report to a police station weekly, and post a bond of 20,000 euros (approximately $23,015).
The man's wife and their other son, aged 5, had already departed for the UK last week. The defense attorney, Alexandros Alexandrou, who took over the case recently, stated that he requires additional time to review the evidence, which has not yet been provided by the prosecution.
