Police in southern Brazil have raided properties connected to Alexandre Bertolucci, the businessman boyfriend of Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aveiro, as part of an investigation into an alleged illegal cockfighting operation. Bertolucci, who has a child with Aveiro, owns one of three properties that were searched in the towns of Gramado and Igrejinha.

During the raids, authorities discovered approximately 1,500 Mura roosters, a breed known for aggression, caged in what investigators described as deplorable conditions. Police stated that many birds, including chicks, showed signs of animal cruelty, including mutilation, lack of food and water, and physical injuries. Some birds had their rear toes removed to accommodate artificial spurs and combs removed to prevent opponents from gaining a grip and to reduce bleeding.

Authorities received tips regarding the breeding and training of roosters for the underground sport, where birds fight to the death. Investigators also found a gun, cell phones, and documents at locations not owned by Bertolucci. A circular ring, similar to those used to simulate cockfighting environments, was discovered at one of the raided premises, along with tables containing anti-inflammatory medications and a trophy depicting fighting roosters. A blue container with dead birds was also found.

Bertolucci denies the allegations and any criminal activity. His attorney stated that the facility is a poultry breeding operation focused on genetic quality, subject to veterinary oversight, and that no evidence of criminal activity was found. The lawyer added that the operation comprises roosters, hens, and chicks.

Cockfighting is illegal in Brazil and can be linked to organized crime, although it often involves individuals forming criminal associations specifically for these events. Such fights frequently occur in remote locations and are sometimes organized through encrypted messaging groups to evade law enforcement. Penalties for such activities in Brazil are currently considered lenient.

No arrests have been made in connection with the investigation, and authorities have not officially confirmed the identities of individuals under investigation due to Brazil's Abuse of Authority Law.

Katia Aveiro, a former reality TV star and singer, began dating Bertolucci in late 2017. She has 1.7 million Instagram followers and describes herself as a communicator and entrepreneur, reportedly working with Bertolucci on real estate projects. There is no suggestion that Aveiro is involved in any alleged unlawful activity. Cristiano Ronaldo and his sister are known to share a close relationship.
