A four-year-old boy died after a crash involving an off-road bike and a car in Newark, Nottinghamshire, on Tuesday evening. The boy was a passenger on the off-road bike when the collision occurred around 6 p.m. on Churchill Drive.
Emergency services pronounced the child dead at the scene. A 24-year-old man who was riding the same off-road bike sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Nottinghamshire Police announced Wednesday that a 32-year-old man has also been arrested on similar grounds. Authorities stated that the off-road bike involved in the incident had been traveling with another motorcycle. The rider of that second bike reportedly left the scene before police arrived.
Detective Inspector Jamie Moore of Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit appealed for witnesses. "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones at this incredibly distressing time," Moore said. "They are being supported by specialist family liaison officers and kept informed about the investigation."
