A body has been discovered in the Blue Mountains during the search for Sandra Popovic, a mother of three who went missing from Sydney's northwest on June 9. Police launched an investigation into her disappearance after she failed to return home.
Her son, 33-year-old Ante Popovic, has been charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of his mother. Family members reported last hearing from Ms. Popovic around 4:50 p.m. on June 8, stating she was meeting her son in Winston Hills, a suburb in Sydney's west.
On June 21, at approximately 2:30 p.m., NSW Police located a body in bushland near Mt Banks Road in Mt Banks, within the Blue Mountains National Park. While the body has yet to be formally identified, authorities believe it to be that of the missing woman.
An extensive search operation was conducted in the area, involving police, the rescue and bomb disposal unit, the Rural Fire Service, the State Emergency Service, and the Volunteer Rescue Association.
