A three-month-old baby girl has died while camping with her family in woodland in Staffordshire, England. Police launched an investigation into the "unexplained" death after responding to a report of a child in cardiac arrest.

Officers were called to a wooded area off Strawberry Lane in Great Wyrley around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Paramedics pronounced the infant dead a short time later. Detectives are currently carrying out inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.

Staffordshire Police stated that the incident is being treated as unexplained and described it as an isolated event. Investigators remain at the scene, which includes a cordoned-off fishing lake in the Wyrley and Essington Branch Canal Local Nature Reserve. District Councillor Robert Duncan acknowledged the distressing nature of the news for the local community and urged the public to allow emergency services space to conduct their work with dignity and care. He stated that updates would be provided once confirmed details are formally released, and asked for speculation to be avoided to allow the family and responders privacy.
