An Australian man is facing a potential life sentence in a Balinese jail after being charged with multiple drug offenses, including trafficking. Sean Miller, 50, from Subiaco in Western Australia, appeared in a Denpasar court this week following his arrest on April 5.
Prosecutors allege Miller offered for sale, sold, purchased, and delivered narcotics. He is also accused of possessing and abusing drugs for personal use. During a police raid on his West Denpasar guest house, authorities reported finding 600 milligrams of methamphetamine, a glass pipe, a bong, and an iPhone. The arrest reportedly followed a tip-off that Miller was selling drugs from the guest house.
Miller has denied the allegations, stating to reporters, "I don't need to sell drugs." He declined to comment when asked if he had been set up. The trial is scheduled to continue next week, with witnesses expected to be called.
Indonesia maintains some of the world's strictest anti-drug laws, with penalties that can include long prison sentences, life imprisonment, or the death penalty. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been contacted for comment.
