Thai authorities have charged a 45-year-old Australian man, Simon Peter Carman, with the premeditated murder and abduction of a minor after a 17-year-old Thai girl, Tunchanok Donhomla, was found dead in a suitcase. The discovery was made two days after she was reported missing.

Donhomla was last seen on the morning of June 26 walking with a foreign man on Beach Road in Pattaya, a coastal city known for its nightlife. According to police, the pair went to the man's condominium, where an argument allegedly ensued over payment. Police stated that the argument led to Donhomla being strangled.

Her body was discovered two days later, on June 28, stuffed inside a suitcase and dumped in tall grass near a railway line, a short distance from the beachfront. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage that appeared to show Donhomla and Carman holding hands as they entered an elevator and later showed a man, identified as Carman, dragging a large black suitcase and leaving the building on a motorbike. The victim's belongings, including her trainers, a mobile phone case, wallet, and jewelry, were found inside the suitcase with her body.

Carman was apprehended at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport while attempting to board a flight out of the country without his passport. He has been charged with premeditated murder, concealing a corpse, moving or destroying a corpse, and abduction of a minor for indecent purposes. Under Thai law, premeditated murder carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment or death.

In a partial confession, Carman admitted to strangling Donhomla, stating that an argument led to her death. He also addressed Donhomla's family in a taped interview, expressing regret and advising other girls to be careful. Carman also reportedly told investigators that Donhomla had attacked him with a knife and that he acted in self-defense. He attributed scratches and bruises on his neck and arms to spiders, claiming they were a common occurrence at his apartment.

Carman had been living in Pattaya for eight months, working as a handyman. Neighbors described him as quiet, though one acquaintance noted he appeared "a bit abnormal" and spoke slowly. In Australia, Carman has a history with Western Australian Police, facing charges including disorderly behavior and demanding property with threats. Former acquaintances described him as a loner who enjoyed firearms and had a tendency to assert dominance.

Donhomla's father and stepmother, who traveled from their home in Kalasin province to collect their daughter's body, expressed their grief and called for the maximum legal punishment for the accused. They rejected Carman's apology, with his stepmother stating she wanted him executed.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to an Australian citizen detained in Thailand. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results and continuing to gather evidence for prosecutors.
