An Australian man, identified as 45-year-old Simon Peter Carman, has been arrested in Thailand and charged with premeditated murder, concealing a corpse, moving or destroying a corpse, and abduction of a minor for indecent purposes. The charges stem from the death of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla, whose naked body was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase near a railway track in the resort city of Pattaya.

Authorities were alerted to Donhomla's disappearance on June 26 after a friend reported her missing. Donhomla had reportedly met Carman, an expatriate, early that morning on Beach Road. CCTV footage allegedly shows the pair holding hands as they entered a lift. Police believe an argument ensued at Carman's condominium over a payment, during which Donhomla was allegedly strangled.

Her body was discovered two days later, found naked inside a suitcase in tall grass. The victim's clothing and personal items, including her mobile phone case, wallet, and jewelry, were also found in the suitcase. Second CCTV footage reportedly shows Carman dragging a large black suitcase and leaving the area on a motorbike.

Carman was apprehended at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport while attempting to board a flight out of the country without his passport. According to police, Carman has made a partial confession, stating he strangled Donhomla during an argument but did not intend to kill her. He also alleged that Donhomla attacked him with a knife and that he acted in self-defense. He expressed remorse to Donhomla's family in a taped interview, urging other girls to be careful.

Carman had been living in Pattaya for eight months, working as a handyman. Neighbors described him as keeping a low profile. Australian authorities confirmed they are providing consular assistance to an Australian detained in Thailand. The victim's parents have expressed deep grief and called for the maximum punishment for the perpetrator.
