One of at least six Australian families caught in a devastating flood at the Tibet-Nepal border has been identified. The Iyer family, from Sydney, was last known to be in Kathmandu before the flood.
A close friend of the family shared an urgent plea for information on Thursday, following the disaster that occurred on Wednesday. Sridharan Iyer, Roopa Sridhar, Rudhra Sreedharan Iyer, and Rishabh Sridharan Iyer are accounted for among the missing.
"If anyone has seen them, has any information about their whereabouts, or has found them safe, please contact me as soon as possible," friend Nisha Khadka wrote online, urging people to share the post widely.
At least 34 Australians are among the nearly 1,500 people reported missing following the natural disaster. The flood was triggered by an ice avalanche and has resulted in at least 160 deaths, with hundreds more unaccounted for.
